More than 160 professionals from across the country recently joined together in Charlottesville, VA for the 20th annual Elevator U (EU) Conference. The University of Virginia was the generous host of this year’s conference, which took place June 19-22. The historic Boar’s Head Inn served as the venue for the 48 vendors, 70 college/university professionals, representing 35 schools, government agencies, consultants, contractors, suppliers and inspectors.
The first day began with a golf outing at the beautiful Birdwood Golf Course. That evening the EU Board of Director’s held its meeting, while the early arrivers gathered for dinner, drinks and conversation. The next two days were filled with educational presentations on topics such as elevator design criteria and specifications, maintenance control, personal safety and long-term planning. The Tuesday evening social event allowed attendees to relax and unwind while being awed by a magician, psychic and one very popular caricature artist. The vendor show, EESF silent auction and 50/50 raffle on Wednesday evening gave attendees the opportunity to network and view the industry’s newest products while also supporting our industry’s charity. In total, $4,450 was raised at the event.
After a half day of education on Thursday, attendees were treated to a tour of Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s historic home, to cap off the conference. Next year’s conference will take place at the University of Alabama in June 2018. Visit www.elevatoru.org for more information.
