Do you have a fear of Escalators? If so, apparently you are not alone. Escalaphobia is a legitimate phobia and just the idea of entering an escalator can cause panic attacks, nausea, and increased heart rate in some people.  Fearing escalators is classified as a “specific phobia” by mental health professionals which, by definition, means that it is an illogical fear. Finding relief for this fear requires seeking out medical attention.

I understand that this phobia and many others is real and difficult to overcome for those who have them.  However, after looking at a list of the hundreds and hundreds of different phobia’s out there I thought that I would share some that would make one wonder.

  • Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.
  • Consecotaleophobia- Fear of chopsticks.
  • Francophobia- Fear of France or French culture.
  • Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia- Fear of long words.
  • Lachanophobia- Fear of vegetables.
  • Lutraphobia- Fear of otters.
  • Novercaphobia- Fear of your step-mother.
  • Omphalophobia- Fear of belly buttons.
  • Peladophobia- Fear of bald people.
  • Selenophobia- Fear of the moon.
  • Zemmiphobia- Fear of the great mole rat.

And, my fear?  Lunaediesophobia – the fear of Mondays!

  2. Wow! I thought I was CrAzY when I started fearing escalators a few years back. Now I know I’m NOT alone. Yay!!!!! This made me feel much better 🙂
