A good laugh is always a great way to start the day! You have to admit that was funny but we all know that escalator emergencies can be very serious. According to industry experts, elevators and escalators are the safest form of transportation in the world. Most accidents that occur on elevators and escalators could have been prevented simply by educating the riding public.
The elevator industry recognized this and, in 1991, they founded the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation (EESF) to educate the public on the safe and proper use of elevators, escalators and moving walks through informational programs.
Over the last 56 years, Elevator World has also played an integral part in addressing and educating the industry on these safety issues. EW has published many articles focused on this topic and the majority of them can be found by searching our free online Research Center. Our online bookstore (Elevatorbooks.com) has several educational products dedicated to emergency personnel involved in both elevator and escalator rescue operations. And lastly, there is a myriad of information available at our Elevator Industry Jobsite Safety page to help and protect those responsible for repairing, installing or modernizing these modes of transportation.
So, as you can see, those people who can be affected by unsafe work or riding practices are many. However, the materials and organizations to stop or help reduce these problems are readily available. So, let’s make sure we support the EESF and utilize the education so we can continue to start our days with laughter!
