It’s a beautiful day in the Sunshine State, and United in Orlando 2009 had a great kickoff. The first big day of this mega elevator event began early at 7:00 a.m. with a golf tournament that, according to his friends at the Canadian Elevator Contractors Association, your reporter heard was a lot of fun. Next was the NAESA International (NAESAI) Board of Directors meeting and a preventive maintenance education session by the father/son team of Joe and Nick Montesano. The afternoon saw four concurrently held roundtable discussions that didn’t leave an empty seat in the house.
The big event of the night was the Presidents’ Welcome Reception, which was packed with industry representatives across two floors. To my knowledge, nobody left unhappy. Most of us continued upstairs to the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation Recognition Reception, where the Foundation presented awards to representatives of the generous organizations that keep it running to educate children on the safe use of our industry’s equipment.
Tomorrow proves to be an even busier day, as exhibitors scramble to construct their booths and continue to network. If things keep going like this, we’ll all have a lot of fun.
