Dogs and escalators just don’t mix! Most people do not think about dogs when referring to vertical transportation, but this can be a very dangerous situation. There are numerous stories of dogs being seriously injured or maimed due to their paws or toes becoming stuck in the teeth of an escalator. As a general rule of thumb, it is recommended that persons carry their dog while riding up or down an escalator. If the dog is too large to carry, it is suggested that both the dog and owner take the elevator. In addition, while most guide dogs are trained to ride escalators, it is still strongly advised to use the above alternative methods when at all possible. If you travel with your dog, don’t forget to keep it safe, too!
