Looking for a fun, elevator-related activity for the family this summer? You might want to try the new Pilgrims Plunge at Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari in Santa Claus, Indiana. (How can you not have fun in Santa Claus, Indiana?)
Described as the “world’s tallest water ride” at a height of 165 feet, what makes the ride interesting for elevator fans is how you get to the top. As reported in the November 2008 issue of ELEVATOR WORLD, riders are lifted to the top via one of two open-air elevators that carry 10-passenger boats up 135 feet. From there, the boats take a 131-foot plunge down a 45° ramp into a pool of water (with the appropriate splashin’ as a result). An animation of the ride was also included in that month’s Online Extras.
So if you’re looking for family adventure, interested in a fascinating use of elevator technology and happen to be in or near Indiana this summer, take a detour to Santa Claus and try out the Pilgrims Plunge. You might even be able to write it off as an educational expense!
