Though the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is not directly connected to the elevator industry, many of our professionals strive to participate in the council’s initiatives. USGBC has chapters across the nation, where groups of relevant industry professionals meet to deliver presentations on educational matters, discuss current or upcoming projects, and to encourage members to promote sustainability in their communities. The mission of the USGBC Alabama Chapter, (which is the home state of Elevator World), is:
“To transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling a socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life in Alabama.”
Having recently moved to Austin, I joined the USGBC Central Texas Balcones Chapter and had the pleasure of attending my first “networking” session on June 6. Of course, it was pleasant because it involved a polite welcome from my peers and excellent food, but it was very informative and I actually met a few elevator professionals (more to come in the future).
