The Deep, an aquarium in Hull, England that opened in 2002, boasts the world’s only underwater elevator, where passengers ride cabs traveling through a transparent tube. The distance is 33 feet, and the cab pauses midway through to allow riders to observe the sea life surrounding them. The elevator made it onto a USA Today list several years ago of the world’s most fascinating elevators. An education and conservation charity, The Deep is home to approximately 3,500 fish and other marine life, such as penguins. It frequently hosts school field trips, and is also available as a setting for weddings.
